RUKUNGIRI - Journalists from the Mpororo region in western Uganda have formed an association to help and co-ordinate them.

They met in Rukungiri district over the weekend and resolved to form Bridge Media Practioners Association (BRIMPA). Their first meeting was held at Rukungiri Inn- gardens where over 40 journalists from Ntungamo Rukungiri and Kanungu districts gathered.

The journalists found it necessary to have an association where they can plan how they can start up some income-generating projects that can help them fight poverty.

Under their BRIMPA umbrella, the journalists elected board members. Radio Rukungiri-FM news editor Grace Turyatemba was chosen as the chairperson. She will be deputised by Perez Rumanzi of Daily Monitor, while Robert Rwebiita was elected the general secretary.

Birungi Mercy of Orumuri-Ntungamo was elected the treasurer, while Radio Ankole Station manager Mzee Kabangira-Magande Elliot was elected the Secretary for publicity and mobilisation.

The meeting also resolved that all station managers and editors of their media houses will be sitting on the BRIMPA advisory board.
