President Yoweri Museveni has urged parents in Acholi to integrate traditional cultural values with modern values. He was speaking on Saturday during the the Acholi Cultural Festival at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu manicipality, Gulu district.
The president instructed parents to teach their children local languages.
President Museveni also encouraged the Acholi people living in the diaspora to share the secret of Europe's industrial development with the locals, so they can accept industrialisation in northern Uganda.

Museveni promised to tarmac more roads, build hydro dams and maintain peace in order to spur development.
The president also ordered Balaalo herdsmen out of northern Uganda in order to maintain peace in the region.
The three-day Acholi cultural festival, held under the theme: Kwero deyo pa Acholi (celebrating the beauty of Acholi) took place from December 14 to 15. The event brought together hundreds of cultural enthusiasts and over 100 dance groups from the eight districts of Acholi - Gulu, Pader, Agago, Omoro, Kitgum, Nwoya, Amuru and Lamwo.

The diverse Acholi culture was on full display for the president, with dances like Otole (war dance), Bwola (dance of the king) Larakaraka (courtship), myel lyel (dance of the dead) Dingi dingi, Aguma, Ajere, Apiti, Acut, among others. They also showcased hunting games, foods, artefacts, medicines and herbs.
