A senior four candidate is nursing bullet wounds after he was shot for allegedly snatching a smart phone from a one, Nyinamugisha along Lithuli Avenue in Bugolobi, Nakawa Division.

According to Police, David Opio, 19, grabbed a mobile phone and fled. His luck however, ran-out following a chase by boda boda riders who attempted to lynch him.

"Opio escaped from the mob, climbed over a perimeter wall fence of former Soroti Municipality MP, Mike Mukula, and was shot in the left arm," Bugolobi Police post boss, Nelson Mungasa said.

According to Mungasa, Opio, is a student of Ebenezer Secondary School in Kisugu.
John Pamba the deputy head teacher of Ebenezer secondary school confirmed that David Opio is a student at the school.

Speaking to New Vision from his nursing bed at Mulago hospital, Opio said: "I did not steal the phone as alleged. I got it from my schoolmate."

He added: "To jump over Mukula's perimeter wall, I wanted to elude from the rowdy boda boda men who attempted to lynch me for a crime I did not commit."
"I jumped over the fence to save my life since everyone believed that I had stolen a phone. I did not steal any phone,"Opio insisted.

 In a passionate plea, Opio said "Although he still has pain in his left arm (Which was shot), he will walk to school (Ebenezer) and sit for his final exam (Kiswahili paper) today (Thursday).

According to Mungasa, Opio might have thrown the phone in the process of running.

"I jumped into Mukula, s home to save my life since the alarm made everyone believe am the thief yet I was. The phone belongs to me and I did not steal it.one of my friends gave it to me," Opio lamented.
