World marks UN 72nd anniversary

THE world today (Tuesday) is celebrating United Nations (UN) Day, as it also marks the 72nd anniversary of the international body.

On the same day, the UN Charter entered into force in 1945.

The UN promotes and protects human rights, delivers humanitarian aid, promotes sustainable development and upholds international law.

The main event of the day is the annual UN Day concert. The theme of this year's concert is "Potential in Diversity" and is sponsored by the Permanent Mission of the Slovak Republic to the United Nations
