Police burns marijuana worth sh50m

Residents were warned of dire consequences if caught growing marijuana.

Police has destroyed more than 1,000 plants of marijuana on 3 hectares of land in Myene sub-county, Oyam district.

Hundreds of marijuana gardens have been destroyed in the area, according to sources.

Myene sub-county LC3 chairman Patrick Olobo, said tracking down the farmers was difficult in the rural area, which is renowned for marijuana cultivation.

Olobo warned residents of dire consequences if caught growing marijuana. He said they would be arrested and prosecuted in the courts of law.

Police also expressed fears of the increasing of crime rates among the youth in the area, due to smoking marijuana.
