Sports federations have been urged to apply for the Olympic Solidarity grants.

Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) secretary general Donald Rukare made the appeal during the UOC council meeting that was held at UOC offices in Lugogo on Saturday.

“You need to apply for available Olympic Solidarity grants because they will help you build capacity in your respective federations,” Rukare stated.

“We as UOC have applied for 37 courses since the Olympiad plan 2017-20 started and because of our good governance, 26 grants were accepted and others are still under review,” Rukare explained.

He also urged federation management committees to honour their constitutions as one way of practicing good governance as enshrined in the IOC charter and also urged to apply for the Olympic Solidarity grants.

Members were also urged to submit their views for the UOC constitutional review process and also tipped to engage the different UOC commissions to help them improve on management in their respective federations.

The council meeting was also attended by the Eritrean NOC president Mehari Tesfai and Djibouti NOC secretary general Faissal Abdurrahman who pledged total cooperation and support to UOC and its members.
