Zimba Uganda seeks to increase the consumption of locally manufactured goods and services to improve Uganda’s trade deficit.

The Government has adopted the localised “Zimba Uganda” brand name to represent the well-known Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) strategy name.
Trade minister Amelia Kyambadde made the announcement at the Media Centre. She said the new brand name will be launched next moth. The BUBU policy was launched by Prime minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda on March 2, 2017.
The Zimba Uganda policy is the Government’s initiative to increase the consumption of locally manufactured goods and services to improve Uganda’s trade deficit and create jobs.

According to the ministry, the policy focuses on supporting local producers and suppliers of construction materials and services, stationery, textiles, furniture, footwear and leather products, plastics, electric cables, foods and beverages, pharmaceutical products, accounting, auditing legal services, printing, transportation, consultancy, education, insurance, hotels and air-ticketing services, among others.
“The ministry has a target of ensuring thatby 2022, 40% of products in supermarkets are locally produced,” Kyambadde said.
She noted that the trade ministry has circulated the BUBU implementation policy in addition to a BUBU compliant bidding document to all government accounting officers to prioritize local suppliers.
