Uganda had a memorable start to the championships

East Africa U15 Boys and Women's Cricket Championships

Selected results

Women's Championship

Uganda 88/5 Kenya XI 89/6

(Kenya win by 4 wickets)

Uganda 120/4 Rwanda 54/6

(Uganda win by 66 runs)

A second best finish was not quite a feat the Uganda National Women's Cricket team wished for but then the championship on a whole, served its main purpose of preparing the ladies for the ICC regional qualifiers.

Of course they could have had it both ways; polishing themselves for the ICC Africa Women's World Twenty20 qualifiers next month in Namibia and  winning their first East Africa Women's Championships but a last fixture 4 wicket  loss to Kenya on Saturday at the Sir Ali Sports Grounds in Nairobi ensured they finished second behind the undefeated Kenya National team.

However, Uganda had a memorable start to the championships following a rather hard knock of 43 not out from Saidat Kemigisha that propelled the visitors to a 3 runs win against a Kenya select side on day one. All round, the team players have built the necessary coordination and certainly it remains to be seen whether they will be able to deliver where it matters most to claim the one slot available for Africa in the global qualifiers, where Uganda has never played before!. Winners of the ICC Africa Women's World Twenty20 qualifiers own the spot.

Meanwhile, John Tumusiime's U15 Boys National team dominated proceedings in the UI5 Boys category where they won the championship in Nakuru at the Rift Valley Sports Ground with four straight victories in the bag. All hail the Boys who are the future of the sport! The two teams  returned yesterday from the regional contest.
