Judge Batema involved in car accident

High Court Judge David Batema was on Thursday afternoon involved in a road accident in which his official car knocked a cow as he was travelling to Lira for a High Court circuit.

The accident occurred at Olwenyi swamp just as the vehicle was approaching Lira town.

Judiciary's senior communications officer, Solomon Muyita, told New Vision that Batema who was travelling to Lira together with his driver and bodyguard were out of danger but that the car was damaged.

"He was involved in an accident after his car knocked a cow that was wandering on the road. For now they are all safe and the High Court Judge in Lira immediately sent his official car to transport them to Lira for further medical examination," Muyita said.

Batema is the Soroti resident judge and was travelling to Lira where he had a number of cases to hear in the current criminal session.

On Monday, Fort Portal resident Judge, Anthony Oyuku Ojok, was injured in 6am road accident together with his driver and bodyguard.

Ojok was travelling from Kampala to Fort Portal court to attend the open day where Chief Justice Bart Katureebe presided over.
