Ugandan referee appointed for FIFA Under-17 World Cup

The biennial football championship is contested by the U17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA.

World soccer governing body FIFA has appointed Ugandan assistant referee Mark Ssonko to officiate in the forthcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

The biennial international men's youth football championship is contested by the U17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA.

The tournament will be hosted by India between ctober 6 and 28 this year. This will be the first FIFA tournament hosted by the country. The final will be held at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October  28.

Sonko becomes the second Ugandan to officiate in the FIFA sanctioned tournament after Ali Tomusange who was assistant referee in the 2002 FIFA World Cup that was hosted in South Korea and Japan.

Ssonko is also the only Uganda that CAF appointed forthe upcoming next group matches of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers starting at the end of this month.
