Deputy DISO, LC3 chairperson held over government drugs

The suspects were arrested by detectives from State House Health Monitoring Unit led by Karugaba Collins (D/SP) in operation which started on Wednesday.
Ten suspects including deputy DISO of Lira, LC3 chairperson of Amach sub-county in Lira are remanded after they were charged with varying offences connected to theft of drugs from different government health units in Lira, Apac and Amolatar.
The suspects were arrested by detectives from State House Health Monitoring Unit led by Karugaba Collins (D/SP) in operation which started on Wednesday.
Karugaba told reporters that the suspects stole anti malaria drugs, ARVs, Hepatitis B drugs from different health units in Apac, Lira and Amolatar valued at about sh50m
The suspects were held at Lira CPS before being taken to court on Friday afternoon where they were remanded at Lira Central Prison. They had their remand warrants processed and signed by Grade One Magistrate Peter Odoo.
Odoo suspects will appear before the chief magistrate on Monday.
The suspects included Baluku Henry, 54, the deputy DISO of Lira, James Okello, 37, and Bernard Adoko, 48, the LC3 chairperson of Amach Sub-county in Lira.
