The army confirmed that UPDF under African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) suffered causalities in the Sunday morning attack.
Army spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire in a statement to the press said that the affected troops were conducting their usual patrol to secure the Mogadishu Barawe Main Supply Route (MSR) which still harbours Al Shabaab linked to Al-Qaeda Islamists.
International media has since reported that several people were killed and scores injured.
