Police in Rubanda District have arrested a 41-year-old woman over allegations of abducting a 13-year-old girl.

According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the suspect has been identified as Regiya Tukamuhabwa of Murole A cell Nyakabingo parish Ikumba sub-county.

She was arrested on Monday.

In a statement, Maate said Tukamuhabwa allegedly abducted Atuhire Agnes, a pupil at Murole Preparatory Primary School and resident of the same village and confined her in her home for unknown reasons.

"This was between July 3 and July 20 without anybody's knowledge. It's alleged that the victim was taken and confined at the suspect's home," he said.

"After announcements were made around July, she transferred her from her home to a friend's place in Ikumba village Shebeya parish, Hamurwa sub-county."

Maate said the suspect's friend identified as Margaret Tumwebaze has also been held to help with police investigations into the matter.

"We shall leave no stone unturned to find out why the suspect allegedly kidnapped the young girl," he said, asking the public to provide any useful information to police so that the suspect can be brought to book.
