DEATH

Nicholas Kipyator Biwott, a former Kenyan MP and cabinet minister, has died in Nairobi.

Kenyan media reported Tuesday that Biwott, nicknamed 'Total Man', died shortly after arrival at Nairobi Hospital after collapsing in his house in the Kenyan capital.

He was 77.

The former Keiyo South MP, who served in eight ministries, had been ailing for a long period, the Daily Nation reported.

Biwott was one of the east African nation's most prominent businessmen and "he was generally believed to have controlled one of the largest fortunes in the country", Forbes wrote.

He is said to have owned the prestigious Yaya Center in Nairobi. Among other establishments, he also owned Air Kenya and Kenya Fluorspar Company, the leading fluorspar mining company in the country, Forbes added.

Biwott worked alongside Kenya's first three presidents: Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki.
