According to the report, Kenya overtook third-quarter leader Israel to gain the top spot for average connection speeds among the surveyed Middle East and Africa countries in the fourth quarter.

Kenya’s internet has been ranked the fastest in Africa and one of the most affordable according to the latest report by Akamai’s State of the Internet Connectivity Report.

Out of the 108 countries sampled globally, Kenya has been ranked 23rd with speeds of 15Mbps.

“In most African countries internet is expensive and speeds are generally slow,” with the report attributing favorable costs to competition in the internet market.

South Korea has the highest average connection speed globally at 26.1 megabytes per second (Mbps).

According to the report, Kenya overtook third-quarter leader Israel to gain the top spot for average connection speeds among the surveyed Middle East and Africa countries in the fourth quarter.

“Kenya’s speed ranks higher than Israel at 14.4Mbps, Qatar 11.9Mbps, South Africa recorded 6.6 mbps, Morocco 5.2 mbps, and Nigeria 4.1 mbps,” the report said.

Kenya also had the highest adoption growth of 15 Mbps range at 5,159%, though this is the first time Kenya is being included in this metric.
