There is need for Basoga leaving in the diaspora to step up their efforts to develop the Nile and its tourism potential according to Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga.

Kadaga was over the weekend addressing the Busoga community living in the United States at the Gaylord Convention Centre in Washington DC under their umbrella forum known as ‘Busoga Twegaitte'.

The event that takes place every two years under the theme ‘Creating Connections and Building Bridges - Together for Busoga in Uganda' where Basoga and other well-wishers to discuss ways of promoting the socio-economic development of the region.

The event was attended by Ministers, Members of Parliament and other prominent Ugandan politicians from Busoga region.

Kadaga who was also the guest of honor, encouraged the participants to come back home because there is a lot of potential that needs skills that they have.

She also cautioned the Basoga in the diaspora against forgetting their cultural heritage. This was in relation to the Busoga anthem which she urged many of the Basoga living in United States to learn.

In the same vein, Uganda's acting ambassador to the US, Dickson Ogwang, hailed the association for its role in improving the health sector in Uganda. Early this year over $30,000 was spent rehabilitating some of the hospitals in Jinja and some other parts of Uganda.

The Minister for the Presidency Esther Mbayo Mbulakubuza and other Members of Parliament encouraged the members of the diaspora to invest back home.

The Busoga Twegaite Convention was founded in the State of New Jersey in 1998. But it has since grown into a multinational organization.
