Former AG Makubuya installed Ffumbe clan leader

Former Attorney General Edward Kiddu Makubuya may now be keeping a low political profile after he lost both his Parliamentary and cabinet positions last year.

But the former Katikamu South MP has gained ranking within his Ffumbe clan after he was over the weekend installed as the head of the clan. Makubuya now carries an additional title of Kayiringita.

Makubuya who inherited the title from the late Yonasani Kayiringita, was installed on Saturday.

The function was held at the late Kayingirita's home at Kalasa village, Makulubita Sub County in Luweero.

Clad in a ceremonial bark cloth bandana, Makubuya urged Uganda's elite to help preserve the country's traditions and culture by doing research and writing books so that the available records on traditions and culture do not disappear with the demise of the elders.

He hailed ancestors, who despite not having gone to school, managed to preserve the cultures and traditions of their respective communities. He said it was important for all Ugandans to know the history, traditions and lifestyles of their tribes.

Kiddu asked those who attended the function to pray for him so that he is able to play his new role of the leader of the clan.

He said he had not been assigned the role because of riches, but because of the confidence that his clan members had in him.

Xavier Kigozi, a son to the late Yonasani Kayiringita said his late father had served the Ffumbe clan exemplarily.

Kigozi criticized those who despise their culture and instead treasure foreign cultures.

The Kabaka's chief in charge of Bulemeezi County, Lwanga Kamere, who was represented by James Sengendo, congratulated Makubuya.

Lwanga clarified on the proposed Buganda land lease titles saying they were not compulsory.
