The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has explained why Local Council elections have been postponed to 2018.

Rugunda Told reporters at Parliament on Thursday that part of the funds that were needed to organize the elections have been used by government to respond to the drought crisis that broke out in the country early this year.

He however, reassured the country that the elections will be conducted next year and as soon as the funds are made available.

The Electoral Commission had requested sh16.9b to hold the elections.

"There is no doubt that these elections will be held. It is just a question of postponement because  resources that were meant for the LC1 elections have partly helped the people of Uganda in overcoming the food shortage brought by this drought," he explained.
