Winning the Gorillas in the Mist Rally 2017-Kabale over the weekend helped Duncan Mubiru revive his hopes of winning this year's National Rally Championship (NRC).

Nicknamed Kikankane, Mubiru navigated by George Ssemakula in a Mitsubishi Evo 10 (pictured) had a good start, winning Day One before sealing ultimate victory on Sunday after winning three stages out of four in a tightly contested race.

"We came to win because we want this year's NRC title, but most important is that it was a good preparation for us as we head to Kenya for the Kenya Safari rally," he said.

Mubiru posted a time of two hours and 17.31 minutes  to beat Ronald Ssebuguzi and Kuku Ranjit who finished second and third respectively in the Mitsubishi Evo 10 cars.

Meanwhile Arthur Blick, Hassan Alwi, Musa Kabega, Ambrose Byona and Omar Mayanja were casualties of the three-day event as they dropped out.

Blick's car suffered gear box problems, Musa Kabega hit a rock, Alwi broke the front and rear drive shafts while Omar and Byona's cars suffered altitude problems, failing to start on the morning of D-day.

The event was held under the theme "Get Well Soon Desh".
