AFCON 2017: Sserunkuuma confident

“I just need to continue working hard and will grab my chance when I get it."

Uganda Cranes forward Geoffrey Sserunkuuma believes he still needs to work hard if he is to stand a chance of making it to the Cranes starting eleven at the upcoming AFCON finals in Gabon.

Sserunkuuma, who plays for local top-flight holders KCCA, is the current top scorer in the Azam Uganda Premier league with nine goals.

He is hopeful he will soon make it to the starting XI.

"I came with the team as the leading top scorer of the league. That alone doesn't guarantee me an obvious starting place on the team.

"I just need to continue working hard and will grab my chance when I get it," said the 33-year-old.

The 31st edition of the Africa Cup of Nations slated for January 14 to February 5 will be hosted by Gabon and games will be played in the towns of Libreville, Franceville, Oyem and Port Gentil.

In Group D, Uganda opens up its campaign against Ghana on January 17 (on Tuesday) before facing Egypt on January 23 for their second game.

They will wind up the group stage with Mali on January 25.
