Nsubuga suffered a "massive stroke" on Friday, according to a statement by party president general Nobert Mao.
KAMPALA - The secretary general of the Democratic Party (DP) Mathias Nsubuga has died, according to reports.
Local media reported Sunday evening that Nsubuga died at Case Clinic in Kampala where he had been admitted after suffering a stroke two days earlier.
Earlier, on Saturday, the party released a statement saying that Nsubuga had suffered what it called a "massive stroke" the day before at Mukono Bookshop.
He was with the party's organising secretary Sulaiman Kidandala at the time, the missive by president general Nobert Mao added.
By the time of the statement's release, Nsubuga was admitted at Case Clinic "incapable of talking and his right lateral completely paralysed".
It is understood that a nurse who had gone to the bookshop to buy a book offered the DP official "immediate First Aid".
At Case Clinic's Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the party said on Saturday that Nsubuga was "under scrutiny of physicians" who were trying to establish the cause of the stroke.
"There are enormous tests that have been carried out and results show that his brain and all the organs are still operative," read the statement.
