President Museveni is expected to be the chief fundraiser at a planned Cranes Africa Cup of Nations fundraising dinner at Hotel Africana on January 10, 2017.

Ahead of the 31st edition of AFCON in Gabon, ECO Bank in partnership with FUFA, launched a fundraising drive aimed at raising sh6bn, to ensure the team is comfortable and has a successful outing at the biennial championship.

Each corporate company is expected to contribute between sh5m-sh10m in the fundraiser aimed at ensuring the Cranes, playing at the AFCON after 38 years in the abyss, are comfortable at the tournament.

According to FUFA vice Dennis Mbidde, contributions can be made in the Platinum and Silver Corporate contribution where sh10m and sh5m can be donated as a corporate entity and by individuals, who can contribute as low as sh10, 000 each.

Musician Bobi Wine and city lawyer Fred Muwema have already opened up their accounts to the drive with sh5m and sh10m respectively.

According to figures presented by FUFA's Decolas Kizza, last week, FUFA will spend over sh5bn on the pre-tournament expenses, and they hope to raise over sh300m from the Eco Bank fundraising campaign, sh365m from CAF TV rights, sh150m from (NIC insurance cover). They also expect over sh4bn deficit to be provided by government towards the campaign.
