Nkumba and Kampala Universities clash in the final of the 2016 Nile Special University Football League at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Saturday.

The last time Nkumba and Kampala Universities competed for the trophy was in 2013 when the former beat Mbarara University to the title.

While addressing the press, Kampala University team captain Frank Ndugwa said that his team badly needs the trophy to reward owner of the university, professor Badru Kateregga.

"Everyone especially the professor has done their part. Some of us are at the university on bursaries. I pray to God to help us win the trophy for the professor, coaches, players and the tutor," an emotional Ndugwa flanked by his coach Vincent Tumusiime said while he clinched his fist.

However, Nkumba University team manger Joseph Muyiira like his coach Patrick Ssebuliba continues to insist it is their year to win the trophy.

Kampala University won the league in 2013 but Nkumba have been in the league since its inception five years ago and are so determined to win it in their debut in the final of the competition.

Nkumba beat Uganda Martyrs University to qualify for the final competition while Kampala University ejected Makerere University.

Makerere take on Uganda Martyrs University in the third place play-off. Winner of the league will pocket sh2.5m, the runners up takes hs1.5m while sh1m is the reward for the fourth team
