Mutebi tops Entebbe Golf Open

It was his first major win since 2014 when he finished second overall at the JBG open.

National team player Herman 'Deco' Mutebi heads to Kigali to compete in the Rwanda Open in high spirits after winning the 8th edition of the Castle Lite Entebbe Open on Saturday.

The 18 year old scratch player from Entebbe returned a total gross score of 147 over 36 holes to beat 14 gross players to the top prize in the two-day tournament that attracted over 200 players.

Mutebi who was a reserve on the national team that won the East African Golf Challenge for keeps in Ethiopia, but did not travel, opened with a four-over-par 75 in the first round before sealing the championship with one-over 72.

It was his first major win since 2014 when he finished second overall at the JBG open.

"Despite the pressure by Davis Kato, Martin Ochaya and Michael Tumusiime, I cooled down and concentrated on my game, and I'm now planning to travel to Kigali to compete in the Rwanda Open," Mutebi who grabbed seven birdies en-route to the victory said.

Fast improving Edgar Muzahura topped the men's Group A, beating Timothy Okwi and

Abdulah Kakooza by two strokes in his fist tournament in the group.

Ronald Kasozi and Ben Kagoro took the Group B and C accolades respectively while Sheilla Kesiime,  walked away with the overall prize in the ladies category after posting 74nett.

Earlier professional golfer Phillip Kasozi had claimed the biggest share of sh10m pro's kity after beating Denis Anguyo in sudden death after both tied on 141 gross.
