The minister of state for urban development has lashed out at Gulu municipal leaders for failing to put in place the basics that qualify the municipality for city status.
Isaac Musumba was surprised to observe that Gulu municipal offices are surrounded by bush which he said should not be mistaken for greening the environment.
The minister said that even within the busy centre of municipality, there are no sign posts indicating the names of the roads, which makes it hard for visitors to find their way around the town.
Musumba was commissioning five completed roads and 10 new ones whose work is already ongoing under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) funding.
He said such basics, including stepping up the level of hygiene, do not require government’s intervention but instead the people’s and leaders’ role.
