Beauty queen donates to needy students

Miss IUEA Ariane Ndalalino Kahindo extended her support to students in Ssese starting with Students of Bishop Dustan Senior Secondary in Kalangala Town council by giving them sanitary towel to boost hygiene in schools in Ssese.

Kahindo added that, after seeing news articles about students in Ssese using tissues and papers from books as sanitary pads it greatly touched her and that's why she decided to lend her support by giving the pads.

‘I don't have much to give and I don't think I can sustain  giving them periodically but this is to act as an eye opener to many people who are out  there to come in and support these students,' Miss IUEA said.

Kahindo added that, most of the girls in villages come from poor families, and so there in a need by the state and other stake holders to help these young ladies.

 

 


Kahindo was accompanied by Leon Lumaga Serwanga, a son to the late Lt Col Serwanga Lwanga who also called upon women Mps in parliament to push and see that a scheme which was proposed earlier for providing sanitary towels to girls in all schools is put in place.

‘I would like to send my sincere cry to all Women MPs, starting with the speaker, please make sure that girls in school most especially in villages are provided with such things, women MPs take the majority in number in parliament, the proposal is in their hands, let them act accordingly,'

"This has made many student miss class, because they keep on hiding while in period time, so parents need to help and provide these items to their daughters if we are to have girl child get educated as boys, ‘The head teacher said.

Early in August this year the Kalangala Town council Chairperson Stephen Kizza also disclosed to journalists that due to failure by parents to give sanitary towel to their daughters, students had resorted to using banana fibers, tissues and papers as pads a thing which was un hygienic.
