Mukono South legislator Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga is the new chairperson of Buganda caucus after winning a hotly contested election that was held Friday evening in the caucus retreat.

The retreat that was held at Ridar Hotel in Seeta saw Ssenyonga and Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo vie for the chairperson seat before deciding to share the seat.

However, this was roundly rejected by the legislators who noted that it was part of the constitution and eventually decided to take the contest to a ballot.

Muyanja emerged winner after getting 40 votes against Ssekikuubo's 17 votes and called upon his fellow legislators to work for the growth of Buganda kingdom and the caucus itself.

Minister of state for higher education Chrysostom Muyingo, while representing the Vice-President Edward Ssekandi, called upon the newly-elected leaders of the caucus to make good use of the constitution that has been enacted to steer the affairs of the caucus.
