Stephen Omony continued to be Stephen Omony and the StarTimes Falcons continued their surge towards the National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs with an 87-59 victory over the Charging Rhinos Sunday at the YMCA.

The ageless superstar grabbed a game-high 25 points and 15 rebounds as the Falcons claimed their sixth victory of the campaign to move into a three-way tie of teams on six wins, fighting for the eighth and final playoff ticket.

Sulaiman Bbale grabbed 19 and 12 boards for the Falcons while Francis Karoro and Vinnie Jurua contributed 18 and 12 points respectively for Brian Rugyendo's team, who won two games in the first round but have claimed four in the second round and still have three games to play.

For the Rhinos, defeat meant the nightmare scenario of relegation is etching closer to being a reality. The 1997 national champions have won three games from 17 and need to win their final four games to have any hopes of survival.

In the women's NBL, the KCCA Leopards made the most of their experience to a claim a 67-59 victory over arch-rivals and reigning champions UCU Lady Canons.

In the clash of the top contenders for the women's crown, Martha Soigi snatched 21 points and 18 boards for KCCA, who led the closely-fought affair for 34 minutes. UCU, who have lost a league-low two matches, were led by Sarah Ageno (15 points), Vilma Achieng (12) and Judith Nansobya 11 points.
