Uganda to send only ONE athlete for Paralympics

Aug 09, 2016

The games official opening is set for September 1

David Emong is the only Paralympic athlete to represent Uganda at the Rio Paralympic Games in Brazil.

Uganda did not qualify any athletes for the Games after the committee failed to send Emong, Christine Akullo, Emmanuel Vukoja and Bashir Bwanga for final qualifiers in Qatar.

However, Emong will be Uganda's only athlete at the games. He will be competing in the T46 men's class of 1500metres race and T47 class of 400metres on a university wildcard.

National Council of Sports is funding Emong's training in Kapchorwa and has secured air tickets for him and the two officials - Bumali and Tumwesigye who will accompany him.

The games official opening is set for September 1.
