They seemed to be on a meltdown entering into the 2016 campaign, losing two of their opening games, but somehow later Pioneer have managed to rekindle their last season habitual winning ways.

On Saturday at the Lugogo cricket oval, the defending champions worked their magic against Habib Mugalula's Jinja SS, beating them by 27 runs with the target score for Jinja SS revised following a rain interruption.

19-year-old Abel Queentor dazzled once again with scores of 30 from 60 balls as Barbra Mukankusi's side set a daunting target of 120 in 39 overs for the Jinja outfit.

The Kenyan would later claim 3 wickets in 7 overs in the second innings of Jinja SS.

"I didn't so much expect this because I was told of the strength of Jinja SS going into the game but nonetheless it's our win so we get to enjoy it" said Queentor, who is the U19 captain for the Kenyan side.

Pricco Nakitende struck 16 and claimed 1 wicket; Carol Namugenyi claimed 3 wickets and hence  Pioneer claimed their third straight win.

Rita Musamali had 8 runs and also claimed 3 wickets for Jinja SS but only for her side to remain on 13 points.

"The girls are good but some of them are candidates so their minds are divided as they have failed to give their all during games," said Habib Mugalula, coach Jinja SS.
