Though the home was destroyed police did not make any arrests

Police in Soroti this morning rushed to Obuletera village in Dokolo parish, Gweri Sub County to quell angry residents who attacked a home of one Willy Esabu.

The people armed with machetes, clubs and spears stormed the home of Esabu's daughter and demolished four houses, a bicycle and injured two people.

Soroti DPC Moses Ochieng rushed to the scene and managed to contain the situation.

The residents led by the LC1 Gilbert Edoru are accusing Esabu for grabbing one acre of government land and let his daughter build on it.

However Esabu insists that he bought that land 25 years ago and ever since he has been there without any disturbances.

However Edoru who led the team to demolish the home of Esabu's daughter says Esabu has been lost a case in the lower courts over the land in question but he has adamantly refused to leave the land.

Though the home was destroyed police did not make any arrests on grounds that the situation was volatile.

The former LC5 councillor Richard Ongodia also said the land belongs to government and that Esabu bought land adjacent to it.

The DPC has promised to return on Tuesday to the scene along with the top district leaders such as the LC5 and the RDC to settle the matter.
