Eleven nominated for Omoro Woman MP seat

Five people have been nominated for the district chairmanship

Eleven candidates vying for Omoro district woman Member of Parliament (MP) and five candidates for the district chairperson have been nominated.

Those nominated under different parties include Catherine Lamwaka (NRM) former contest woman MP Gulu district, Prosy Alanyo Owiny (FDC), Shaka Mariea Lapolo (UPC) and Grace Lanyero Pamela (DP).

Others nominated as independents include; Grace Atim, Christine Atimango, Santa Okot former contestant for Pader district woman MP, Betty Lalam, Alice Akello Latigo, Rose Nyapolo, and Alice Aneno Oroma also a former contestant Kitgum district woman MP.

Those nominated for the district chairperson include: Robert Mugabe (PPP), Stephen Odong Latek (NRM), Simon Tolit Akecha (FDC), Geoffrey Oryem (Ind) and Douglas Peter Okello (Ind).

Denis Obong the returning officer Omoro district said six candidates for woman MP and two candidates for district chairperson did not turn up for nominations.

Most of the candidates who turned up for nominations were escorted by politicians from Gulu district that included Martin Ojara Mapenduzi the Gulu district chairperson, Betty Aol Ocan the Gulu district woman MP and Norbert Mao the DP president.

In an interview with New Vision, the candidates promised to transform the newly created district into a model district in the region unlike other districts that had failed from the onset.

The former Gulu district NRM chairman and the district speaker Douglas Peter Okello said for this to happen, the district must be well planned, designed basing on the people's needs in terms of service delivery which is the engine of community transformation.

The former NRM boss who is standing on an independent ticket also promised to ensure proper utilization of funds released by the central government so that people can have improved standard of living.

Relatedly the former RDC of Gulu Catherine Lamwaka also pledged to empower farmers most especially women to boost agricultural production once elected as the woman MP for Omoro district.

"Sometimes farmers select crops that are not lucrative because they lack guidance in terms of what is profitable," she said.

She argued that once women are empowered, household poverty will be eradicated because of their capacity to support their families.

Simon Odong Latek promised to ensure that the local people determine what type of services they want.

According to the EC calendar polling day for MP's and the LC 5 chairpersons is slated for 26th August.
