The former Rwenzururu kingdom prime minister and renowned Kasese businessman Henry Kandabu has died.

Kandabu who served as the second Rwenzururu kingdom prime minister between 2012 and 2013 was pronounced dead on Friday afternoon in Kampala where he has been battling hypertension.

Denis Pambara, a close relative to the late Kandabu, confirmed his death and said that his body is currently being treated at Mulago Hospital before it is transported to Bwera in Kasese for burial.

Kandabu owned a chain of businesses in Kasese town; he is the owner of Mawa market, the biggest in the district.

The Rwenzururu King, Charles Wesley Mumbere appointed Kandabu as prime minister for the institution in 2012 and later suspended him for failing to account for sh40m.

Kandabu who had been in office since October 2012, received sh40m donated to the Kingdom by a charity organization to carry out renovations around the palace but never did the work.

The King then instituted a four-man probe team led by Enock Jimmy Muhindo, the speaker of the Kingdom House of Representatives.

Other members on the team were former Minister for Local Administration who later replaced Kandabu as kingdom premier, Noah Nzaghale, Ernest Baluku, representing the Rwenzururu veterans' development association, and John Kyamakya.

The findings of the probe team have never been made public.
