Man assaulted for 'returning home late' dies

Police in Tororo have arrested a 65-year-old woman for causing the death of man she has reportedly been cohabiting with at her home.

Allen Nabugede, who resides in Triangle village, Merikit sub-county, was arrested after her lover John Oketch succumbed to his injuries at Tororo Hospital.

He is known to have been rushed to the health facility after being reportedly assaulted by Nabugede.

Bukedi regional police spokesperson Sowali Kamulya reconstructed reports of the deadly episode.

Nabugede is said to have sent Oketch to the shop to buy cassava flour, but he took a little too long. His delayed returned is understood to have infuriated his lover.

Angry, she decided to lock him out. Oketch persisted and tried to hit open the door, something that must have made matters worse.

According to police reports, Nabugede picked up a stick, opened the door and senselessly hit Oketch "several times on the head".

Neighbours heard the melee and once at the scene, found Oketch lying unconscious and rushed him to hospital where he failed to recover.

Nabugede faces charges of assault and murder.
