KCCA launches 2016 Kampala City Festival

The intention of the festival is to bring together different people from all over Uganda to celebrate their city

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) executive director Jennifer Musisi has launched the 2016 Kampala City Festival which is expected to draw thousands of city dwellers.

This year's festival is expected to be celebrated for more than one day as it has been in the past. Musisi said that the festival will have pre festival activities which will include a vintage cars show, a motor rally and city cyclists among others.

This year's festival which will be celebrated under the theme ‘Black, Yellow and Red' and will have several other pre - festival activities including a run which will be held a week before 2nd October.

Musisi said that the intention of the festival is to bring together different people from all over Uganda to celebrate their city.

The fuction was attended by Minister for Kampala Beti Kamaya who praised and appreciated KCCA for the move saying that festivals bring together different people who benefit from each other.

Others in attendance were the deputy Lord Mayor, division mayors and councillors among others.

Last year the festival was attended by over 5 million people coming from all over the region as well as from the diaspora.

 

 

 

The event is fully funded by the private sector as a major business and publicity opportunity for them.

The Festival has become an internationally recognized annual event that now profiles Kampala and Uganda as a tourist destination.

This year Bell Lager has come on board as the platinum sponsor of the festival with a sh150 million package.

"Our flagship brand, Bell Lager shares a rich heritage with Kampala having been born and brewed here. Our brands are part of celebrations and what better platform than the biggest annual celebration in Kampala," said Nyimpini Mabunda, the Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited.

Other sponsors are City Tyres, Huawei, Movit and Jesa.
