Uganda's kickboxing team receives cash boost

Hima cement gave the team sh20m

Kickboxing stars Patricia Apolot, Alex Matsiko and Shakey Mubiru have been challenged to qualify for the Kickboxing World Cup later this year in November in Italy. 

The received sh70m support from Hima Cement to go and compete in the World kickboxing championships in Budapest Hungary on Saturday. 

"We have been training without the hope of funds but now we have got the funds and the challenge is on us to win, so that we qualify for the world cup in November," Mubiru stated. 

Hima Cement gave the team sh20m and sh50m to Apolot as her facilitation for her fights for a full year.

"I have been challenged to prove that it is funds which have been limiting me and I will do my best to win" Apolot stated.

Matsiko the World Kickboxing Federation K1 light middleweight champion said he will be upgrading to the K1 middleweight and he is confident victory is his. 

"I'm the Lion and the Lion of Judah is with me. I want to promise that we are focused to have the Uganda Anthem played thrice in Hungary" he said. 

According to coach Adam Eric Boumadi, Apolot will fight Victoria Lipianska in the full contact category, Matsiko takes on Csaba Gyorfy  in the K1 category while and Mubiru will take on Sandor Joo.

 

 

Hima Cement marketing director Allan Ssemakula assured the athletes that the company is committed towards supporting sports. 

"Hima Cement is committed towards improving the standard of the sport and put Uganda on the world map," he stated.
