NARO annual review opens in Mukono

The review is meant to take stock of what NARO promised and what they have achieved.

MUKONO - The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) has opened its annual review and planning workshop at Colline Hotel in Mukono.

The review was opened by Prof. Joseph Obua, chairperson of NARO's governing council on Monday.

He called upon the organization to tell the participants what it has achieved in the last year and what they had failed on and the reason for failing.

Obua also tasked NARO to explain its contribution to government programmes like the Operation Wealth Creation and what it hoped to contribute in Uganda's efforts to achieve the National Development Plan II and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The review is meant to take stock of what they promised and what they have achieved in the last year and the targets for next year.

Dr. Ambrose Agona, the director general of NARO, said the organization is working to close the 1/3 yield gap between station yields and farmers' yield using its zonal institute to do extension work..

The review will run up to Wednesday.

It is being attended by officials from NARO, the ministry of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries, Makerere University, private sector, USaid and the World Bank, among others.
