Bright colors help in developing a child's sight

Jun 20, 2016

When a child is growing, every part of their body is in the developing stage.

Many people tend to paint their homes with dull colors in the inside and outside with an aim of protecting paint from showing dust if their houses are near dusty roads but this can be of effect to their children's sight development.  ‘When a child is growing, every part of their body is in the developing stage. The eyes are one of the parts of the body that develop and here the iris expands so that the child can get a clear sight.

However the iris can be blocked from developing when the child looks at dull colors because they tend to encourage shyness and passivity where bright colors provide visual stimulation' says Dr. Lydia Nalugwa a consultant paediatrician at Lucky Paediatrician clinic in Kampala.   Prossy Nalule a specialist in infant education at soar Grammar Nursery school in Seeta says that selecting the right color for a classroom can make a crucial difference in children's behaviour and ability to learn.

She says that pre-school children, who tend to be very sensitive to environmental factors and who have not yet acquired skills in concentration and focus, can benefit from a color scheme that promotes appropriate forms classroom behaviour. "Paying some attention to color psychology, as well as external lighting factors in order to create a pre-school classroom color scheme will help children's intellectual and social growth by selecting colors that go well together. For example two walls in sunshine yellow with another wall of brilliant leaf green and the remaining wall bright blue. Red is also a good color, but should be used in moderation to avoid over stimulating children and  orange is best for environments where children are encouraged to take part in physical activity, though it tends to inhibit quiet and concentration' says Nalule.

Citie Waswa the Director of Citie Homes Ltd  a company which deals in interior designs says that bright colors build the brain of children, their intelligence and growth of their character.  Waswa says that because of this children places like schools, their bed rooms, children's recreation places, the living room where they spend most of their time need to have bright colors painted in them. Wasawa says that bright colors don't work for children only but can also work in offices to bring in more business. "If you're wondering what color to paint your office, or you're looking to redesign your retail space, the colors you choose can increase your chance of reaching your goals.

Color greatly influences human emotion and behavior and if you're hoping to make your workers more productive, or you want to encourage shoppers to spend money, understanding the basics of color psychology can help you design a space that will maximize your potential" says Waswa.

He adds that performance of colors can best be graded by age, sex, ambience of the place and the purpose of the place. As the age grows higher the brightness of the color goes down, the girls and boys in youthful ages have different tastes of colors and places also differ in color ranges.

The  production manager at Global paints manufacturers of a variety of  color paints Bashir Lweese says that  bright  colours increase space as they attract light and  also send away insects and pests that's  why most insects like  cockroaches hide in  dark corners.

He however says that there are places which need dull colors like adult bedrooms because it's a place to rest, night clubs  and hideouts because if these have bright colors  they will not attract customers.

Lweese says that colors are mixed with colorants which are chemicals that make pigments of colors. "These are of a range which include primary and secondary colors and they cost differently according to the market price.

The cost of the paint whether bright or dull   will depend on the type of colorant used and also its price.

In this regard bright colors can be more expensive that dull colors or vise vasa" says Lweese.

He adds that the durability of these colors is all about grading  from the  manufacturer ,  the best paint will have a much more higher grade than the middle and last  paint  which will all depend on the cost of  how much the manufacturer  has used  for the price to be determined.
