10 nominated for Best Digital Bank for Africa awards

KAMPALA - The annual Digital Impact Awards Africa (DIAA2016) has released a list of the nominees for Best Digital Bank for Africa.

Stanbic, Barclays , KCB and Equity are among the 10 banks nominated.

They were chosen from a list of 48 other banks operating in Africa in a research done by DIAA2016. The financial institutions were assessed for their digital banking embrace and innovations.

The finalists emerged with a Digital Index score between 2.25 and 3.12 out of 5.

Bank of Africa, Capitec, First National Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Standard Chartered and United Bank for Africa also made the list.

“Our research for digital banking includes electronic banking integration of standard online and mobile banking with social media, to offer customers a better banking experience” said Innocent Kawooya, CEO of HiPipo.

“The DIAA2016 digital banking research had a shortlist including banks operating in several African countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda among others,” he added.

Prior to the release, nominees and recipients of Medals of Honor were also announced.

The Awards and Medals of Honor will be presented at Kampala Serena Hotel on August 17.

Under the theme "Maximizing the Digital Dividend”, the Awards focus on digital inclusion, financial inclusion and cybersecurity.
