Sport-S and Vision Volleyball Camp teams risk being locked out of the annual Aporu Okol International Volleyball Championships if they don't return the trophies they won last year.
There has been a vigorous debate on social media as to whether the holders of the men and women, schools category trophies should return or keep them and force the organisers to buy new ones.
The debate among the local volleyball fraternity was sparked off by a reminder to the holders of the trophies by the son of Aporu Okol in whose memory the championship is staged annually in Kumi.
He reminded them to carry along the trophies when they turn up for the tournament on Saturday.
"It's in the ancient days that trophies were returned to tournament organizers. The good thing is you as organisers have changed everything about this tournament including increasing the registration fee from sh50,000 to sh100,000. I beg you revise the norm about the trophy," Yusuf Mukiibi, a volleyball player said.
Aporu Okol Jr. insists that the winners will have to return the trophies because as organisers they will not buy new ones for the contest.
About 54 teams including local clubs, Lugulu and Malava Girls, Administration Police and Bungoma from Kenya are expected for the championships that continue with the club events on Saturday.
