They prayed and sang songs of praise along the way.
A group of about 100 Christian pilgrims walked into Mpigi district from western Uganda en route to Namugongo.
They are making the long trek to the martyrs' shrine to be a part of a mammoth group expected on June 3 - Martyrs' Day.
Before they left Lukaya, they attended mass presided over by Rev. Edward Muyimba of St. Jude Parish who prayed for them and for a safe journey.
This year's events are being organised by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kiyinda - Mityana led by Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa with a 400-strong choir.
