The High Court in Kampala has fixed July 13, to deliver judgment in an election petition filed by Paul Mwiru from Jinja Municipality East.

Mwiru who contested as Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate and lost to Nathan Igeme Nabeta (NRM) in the Feruary 18, 2016 election has challenged the election.

Justice Lydia Mugambe Wednesday fixed the date after concluding hearing of the evidence. She asked the lawyers to filed written submissions.

Mwiru is challenging the election of Nabeta on grounds that the election was not free and fair adding that it was marred by irregularities.

However, Nabeta, who won the election denied claiming that it was marred by irregularities and dismissed the allegations as untrue.

Nabeta said the election was conducted in a free and fair manner and denied any wrong doing saying, he won the elections on merit.

He asked court to dismissed the petition and uphold his election as Member of Parliament representing Jinja Municipality East.

This is second time Mwiru is challenging Nabeta election in court. In 2011 Mwiru challenged Nabeta on lack of academic qualifications.

Before February election, Mwiru also filed a petition to stop Nabeta from contesting saying he lacks the necessary academic qualification, but Jinja High Court dismissed the application.
