20 police officer face probe over Besigye escape

May 15, 2016

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango declined to confirm the arrest order and neither could he confirm whether investigations were ongoing.

Close to 20 Police officers who were deployed to guard the home of Forum for Democratic Change President Kizza Besigye are under investigations by the Police Professional Standards Unit.

Highly placed sources at police headquarters told Sunday Vision that Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura had ordered for the arrest of the officers on Friday and that they were being questioned to explain the circumstances under which Besigye beat deployment at his home in Kasangati, Wakiso and emerged in Kampala central where he was arrested on Wednesday.
