Warnings of more landslides issued in Bundibugyo

Residents told to prepare for round-the-clock evacuation

Authorities in Bundibugyo district have issued warnings to local residents over the possibility of more flashfloods and landslides if downpours continue in the region. 

The warning by the RDC Bundibugyo, Mucunguzi Godfrey follows Monday night rains that triggered landslides and flashfloods in more than half a dozen locations in Bundibugyo, killing 17 people ; destroying close to 200 homes and affecting thousands others. 

Mucunguzi cautioned the residents in the affected areas to prepare for round-the-clock evacuation if necessary as rescue teams continue to assess the situation. 

The hardest hit were the sub counties of Bubukwanga, Bukhonzo, Humya and Bundibugyo town council.

The MP elect Bwamba County in Bundibugyo, Richard Gafabusa says that some people are still missing.
