Angry residents torch crime preventer's house

Angry residents of Nyakaizi cell, Kakoba division in Mbarara Municipality on Wednesday morning torched a house belonging to Ssengabi Wasswa a crime preventer attached to Nyakaizi Police post. 

This follows the retrieval of the body of Francis Twesigomwe of the same area from River Rwizi. 

Twesigomwe is alleged to have drowned over the weekend as he tried to run away from Ssengabi and two other police officers who wanted to arrest him. 

Locals say Twesigomwe had earlier been arrested for beating up a man he found trying to rape his wife. He was granted Police bond after agreeing to compensate the man he beat. 

Over the weekend, it's alleged that Ssengabi in company of two Police officers tried to arrest Twesigomwe for delaying to pay the compensation. 

The DPC Mbarara Jaffer Magyezi cautioned the public against mob justice.
