Police is seeking a legal opinion from the Attorney General (AG) on how to handle issues of Christopher Aine, the former head of security detail of the former presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi.

Aine resurfaced last week at Gen Salim Saleh's home, after five months on the run.

In a television interview, Aine said he had been in Tanzania’s capital, Dar-es-Salaam, but gave no hints on how he sneaked out of the country on December 14, 2015. He also did not reveal who he had been staying with in Tanzania or what he had been doing.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said Gen. Saleh was negotiating with government on how to handle the matter.

"We are now seeking for the Attorney General's opinion. The Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura is already in consultations with him. His opinion will determine what to do next," he said.

Police then announced a cash bounty of sh20m for anyone who could provide information leading to his arrest for skipping bail and his alleged involvement in the Ntungamo clashes. The bounty was withdrawn last week.

In an exclusive interview with New Vision, Kayihura confirmed that Police had received a tip about Aine's alleged escape through Kenya.

Kayihura also noted that Aine would continue staying at Saleh’s place as they worked out modalities of how his matter would be handled.
