Government sponsored medical students of Gulu University are protesting a new policy that will have fourth and fifth year  students scrapped from benefiting from the faculty and equipment allowances.

First year students get sh130,000 in faculty allowances every year while only fourth year students get sh400,000 in equipment allowances.

The students aired their demands after a long meeting this morning at the University main hall with both guild president and Vice Chancellor of Gulu University, Nyeko Penmogi saying this is not acceptable.

Johnson Noowe, a first year medical student says they are not being given the money and yet it is meant to cater for their expenses at the university

Penmogi however says the university council, will sit down and decide whether the money should be paid to students according to the approved rate by the university council to those who have not yet received the payment

He however asked students to be calm and patient as they resolve the matter
