He says there is a clan in Kasese which is grooming someone to overthrow him

The Rwenzururu king, Charles Wesley Mumbere, has said there is a plot to oust him adding that his rival, a clan in Kasese, is grooming some one to overthrow him.

Mumbere made the claim after one of his royal guards, Yafesi Mugoye, was gunned dead and another, Juma Muliki, arrested around Shauri market.

The Rwenzori Regional Police spokesperson, Lydia Tumushabe confirmed the death of Mugoye.

She said Mugoye was arrested in connection with the March 23 night attack on Kidodo police post in which the attackers killed a police officer and grabbed his AK47 gun with 30 rounds of live ammunition.

"The operatives were whisking away the suspect when another man who attempted to rescue his colleague and tried grab a pistol from the operatives," Tumushabe said.

On Easter Monday, security forces also shot and injured one person in Kasese town as he attempted to attack security operatives who had arrested a suspected attacker of the Kidodo police post.

Waving a photograph that shows his throne claimant, Robert Timbamwenda, Mumbere warned his rival telling forget about the Rwenzururu kingship.

"I am recognised by the government," Mumbere who was officially recognised by government in October 2009 as the leader of the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu said.

The recognition was after a battle of words that had polarised Kasese and Bundibugyo into camps of those for and against the establishment of the institution.

Mumbere, who looked visibly touched, also alleged that there is a campaign to kill prominent Bakonzo leaders, maintaining that some Bakonzo were behind the sinister scheme.

He again dissociated himself and the Rwenzururu establishment from the recent violence that left 30 people dead, property destroyed and hundreds displaced in Kasese and Bundibugyo.

Touring Bundibugyo recently, President Museveni warned the attackers to stop killing innocent people and vowed to deal with the attackers.

Police boss Gen Kale Kayihura recently said the bloody attacks in the two districts were committed by militia group's dubbed "kilhumiramuthima" which he linked to the Rwenzururu kingdom.
