Wamalwa most decorated as Kampala Club Chairman's cup ends

During the crowning ceremony, Wamalwa picked four accolades

Edith Wamalwa and Andrew Jackson Oryada won the most individual awards as the annual Kampala Club-MTN Chairman's Cup climaxed on Saturday.

During the crowning ceremony, Wamalwa picked four accolades, taking the ladies singles in Tennis and Squash as well as in the mixed and women doubles tennis action where she partnered John Sewamala and Edith Kagimu.

Oryada was also a double winner bagging the Badminton and Tennis singles accolades as well as the Tennis men's doubles having paired with Osmond Atwine and he was runner up in the Table Tennis singles to Timothy Kayondo.

Liz Mugabi was also a double winner in Badminton claiming the women singles and the doubles where she paired with Eunice Muhwezi.

Katy Kabenge took the Table Tennis trophy and was runner-up to Edith Wamalwa in the women Squash singles tournament while James Tugyende was the top player (Tennis) in the men-over 60 category.

In Darts, Lydia Tusingwire was the top performer and whose partnership with Sedrace Rwekikiga also won her the doubles crown.

Abdeel Kyezira won Srabble, Patrick Tumwine (Chess), Jim Mukasa (Mweso), Rodney Mutakama (Pool) and William Byaruhanga (Squash).

The walking race was won by Mike Tumwikirize and Samalie Walusimbi (men+women below 50 years) with Medi Sebunya and Jacet Lubega claiming that of those above 50 years.

Victor Walusimbi, William Luyima and Jimmy Onyango took gold, silver and bronze respectively in the swimming competition for the men below 50 years while Professor Ntazi and Lauben Byarugaba were top in the men above 50 category.

The women version was won by Jane Guwenda, Martha Kirabo and Julie Dhibikirwa for those under 50 while Clare Nduhura, Jolly Byaruhanga and Grace Magundu took the medals for those above.

Former Kampala Club Chairman Ben Mbonye who was the guest of honour tasked the current executive led by Solomon Rubondo to not only engage all the members in sports but also engage them in technical and intellectual discussions as a way of revamping the club.

The club in appreciation of MTN sponsorship also presented a plaque to MTN Business head Reginald Kafeero for 'helping the members improve their health through sports'.
