Local comedians to embark on Easter tour

Mar 14, 2016

The comedians on the lineup bring enough stage experience, societal banter but less comic universality

The comedy industry in Uganda is taking great strides in the local entertainment industry what with the number of shows cropping up from all corners of the country, and the number of comedians flying the Ugandan flag beyond the borders.

The Easter period is here, denoting a few days of celebration. Crown Beverages Limited (CBL), under their Mirinda flag, have joined comedians MC Kapale, Mariachi, Afande KeleKele, Snake/Zolo, Madrat/Chiko, Swengere, Amooti and the new Amarula Production on an Easter tour in Kampala, Entebbe, Mukono and Jinja. This will happen in March 24 -27.

The comedians on the lineup bring enough stage experience, societal banter but less comic universality. Enough sketch acts, scatological jokes, which by the way have won them more fans, and less irony.

But let's not arrive at conclusions sat astride high horses as self-appointed comedy commentators, lest comedy fans miss out on what is up their sleeve this year.

CBL is believed to have injected in good millions of money to see the tour prosper having been in partnership with the comedians, who base their weekly gigs at Laftaz Comedy Lounges in Kampala and Jinja, for four years.

Comedians' performances will also be laced with musical dos from artistes like Ziza Bafana, King Saha, Sheebah and Winnie Nwagi.

According to Mirinda Brand manager, Timothy Luzinda, the shows are meant to bring on the Easter cheer and also bring to life the brand thematic "Free Your Fun side" while providing an interactive platform between the brand and its fans.

Entrance fee to the show in  Mukono (Satellite beach) and Kampala (Laftaz Comedy Lounge) will go for sh10, 000 ordinary and sh20,000 VIP while in Jinja (Dam waters) entrance will be shs10,000 for adults and shs5,000 for children.
